September 1, 2002 - Charlottesville, Va
Contact: Gerard P. Learmonth Sr., Ph.D.
Broadband Network Services Incorporated (BNSI) announced today that it has closed a
transaction whereby BNSI acquired the Internet assets of Wahoo Communications. As a result
of the transaction, BNSI assumes Wahoo’s Internet service customers and certain of its
hardware assets. Additionally, Wahoo’s owner, Robert R. Schotta, joins BNSI as Vice
President of Sales. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
BNSI’s CEO, Gerard P. Learmonth Sr. said “this combination solidifies BNSI’s position as the
preferred provider of Internet services to enterprises in the Greater Charlottesville market.
Wahoo’s customer base of small to medium sized enterprises is a perfect complement to BNSI’s existing
customer base.”
Wahoo specialized in providing broadband Internet access to individual businesses as well as office
complexes. BNSI, also a supplier of broadband access services, will easily integrate this customer
base leveraging its over seven years' experience serving the Charlottesville market.
In addition to Internet access services, BNSI also provides co-location services to enterprises
wanting to maintain their own Internet servers in an Internet-ready data center with redundant backbone
connections to Tier 1 National Service Providers, battery and generator backup, as well as around-the-clock
physical security.
Learmonth emphasized BNSI's commitment to all of its customers, saying
"even after the so-called dot-com bubble burst, small to medium sized
businesses in the region increasingly require first-class Internet services
from a provider who understands and caters to their very specific needs.
This is where BNSI's core competencies lie; we don't get distracted trying
to be all things to all businesses."
He added "with the addition of Bob Schotta, with his long experience
in telecommunications and Internet services sales, BNSI will continue
its growth as the region's preferred provider of Internet services to
the business community."
