BNSI Opens Its State-of-the-Art Network Operations and Data Center
October 26, 1998 - Charlottesville, Va Contact: Colin M. Learmonth
Over the past weekend, Broadband Network Services Incorporated (BNSI)
completed the physical move of all its operations to its new Network Operations
and Data Center (NODC) in the Jordan Building at Pepsi Place. BNSI, better
known as ESInet, requires the additional space to keep up with the demands
of its growing customer base.
In
a carefully planned and staged move, BNSI suspended operations at its
former location on Airport Road at 8:00 AM Saturday. Service was restored
and operations resumed within four hours at its new, expanded location.
BNSI
President and Chief Operating Officer, Colin M. Learmonth, was in charge
of the design and build-out of the new space and the physical move. "Not
only does the Network Operations and Data Center provide us with much
needed room for BNSI's growth, but it is designed with extensive electrical,
HVAC, and data communications equipment redundancy. Our goal is to continuously
expand and improve the quality of the service we provide to our corporate
and individual customers," said Learmonth.
Coinciding
with the opening of the new Network Operations and Data Center, BNSI increased
the capacity of its Internet backbone connection with the installation
of a new T-3 facility from AT&T.
In
addition to the increased capacity of this connection, Learmonth cited
the fact that the circuit is carried over Synchronous Optical Network
(SONET) facilities as a definite advantage. "SONET provides physical redundancy
on the fiber optic cables," he said, "a single line break anywhere will
not disrupt our ability to provide Internet service to our customers."
With
the successful opening of the NODC, BNSI will now concentrate on the expansion
of its service offerings. "In our rapidly changing information-based economy,
enterprises large and small look for a single provider to meet all of
their network and data communication needs, not just Internet access.
BNSI is that provider," said Learmonth.
